Brides of Yester-Year
Dress of Ruth Elizabeth Wells Nicholas
|
Many of our other dresses have been ivory or cream-colored, but this dress is sparkling white. The underdress is a simple sleeveless, V-neck white chemise. The overdress circles the waist with a deep satin cummerbund. The overdress then poufs out to be gathered in again at the hips, where it is cinched with a wide satin band tied into a large bow at the center front. This satin band is edged in a dotted net trim that ends in points. Both the underdress and overdress are cotton voile or lawn, a very sheer light weave worn in the warmer months. The sleeves of this dress end just above the elbow and are edged with the same dotted net trim used at the hips. This dotted net is used once again to trim the collar of the overdress. The dress buttons down the center front with three beautiful handmade satin rosebud buttons. This bride would not only have been pretty on her wedding day - she would have been comfortable, too. |
