Keep Em Flying

2BH283Welcome to Keep 'Em Flying! a doorway to the World War II collections of the Lake County Discovery Museum.

This "virtual exhibit" highlights key selections from the museum's recently digitized World War II collection which is rich with images of all aspects of the war. Postcards, propaganda pamphlets, photographs, rationing brochures and even two invasion maps commissioned by the Army Map Service have been brought together to tell the story of life in the military and on the homefront in the United States from 1940-1945.

The exhibit and digitization project are known collectively as Keep ‘Em Flying!, a popular slogan used by the military and on the homefront. The phrase was originally created for use in the recruitment campaign for the Aviation Cadet Program before the start of World War II. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, the War Department urged businesses to incorporate the patriotic slogan in their advertising. It was a reminder to Americans that if they did their part on the homefront, they would help keep our men in the air and help win the war.

The entire digitized collection is hosted at www.DigitalPast.org.
